Ford Throttle Body Recalls: An In-Depth Look

Just because Ford is known for their dependability, doesn’t mean they don’t have issues. A throttle body is basically a butterfly valve that regulates how much air can enter the engine. Not enough, no power will get generated.

How many recalls has Ford had for its throttle body issues?

There has only been one, and it wasn’t an official NHTSA recall. Instead, the manufacturer admitted that there may be problems with the electronic throttle body in several models and extended its warranty in response.

In this article, we’ll cover Fords statement about their decision to issue an extended warranty instead of pursuing a recall of the throttle bodies in its vehicles. This information can provide owners with the next steps toward any needed repairs or replacements on their Ford vehicle.

There is No Actual Recall on the Ford Throttle Body

Despite a number of customer complaints and concerns, as well as an investigation, Ford “recalled” the affected throttle bodies without being part of an official NHTSA recall.

An extended warranty was offered in place of a recall, allowing affected vehicles to be repaired or have their throttle bodies replaced. But since it wasn’t a full recall, the only throttle bodies that had to be replaced were those that experienced problems rather than a larger group of owners.

Then they were covered “under warranty” instead of replacing all throttle bodies in vehicles where that component may become defective in the future.

How to Handle a Ford Throttle Body Issue

If you’re unsure about a recall or other concern about your Ford vehicle and its throttle body, you can check out the NHTSA website and put your vehicle’s VIN into the search box. Searching by the year, make, and model is also possible and you can get good information on what recalls might be listed.

If you see that there’s a recall for your vehicle, you’ll want to call Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 to learn what steps to take next. You’ll be able to find out where you can take your vehicle for service, and what you should expect during the process.
