Are you looking for a Jeep that lets you cart the kids around in style? Maybe you’re after a strong suspension system for your next off-road adventure? There’s a Jeep for all needs. By the end of this piece, you’ll know which one is right for you.

The 2020 Jeep SUV Model Lineup

Most Jeep vehicles can fall into the SUV classification. Here’s what you’re looking at when it comes to outstanding options.

Wrangler: $28,315 – $49,515

Red Jeep Wrangler With White Background

The Jeep Wrangler offers numerous trim options, including something for everyone. From the Sahara Altitude (Jeeps highest-priced model) to the Sport, there is a range of options to choose from for all drivers.

If you’re after a vehicle with true off-road ability, you’ll get that in the Rubicon and the Altitude. For more style and elegance, go with the Freedom or the Black and Tan Wrangler. Overall the Wrangler has a strong engine setup with up to 470 horsepower (on the Rubicon).

The Wrangler is also equipped with numerous tech features, including a range of driver-assist systems. The improved fog lamps provide ample performance, as does the rugged body style design.

Wrangler Specs:

  • 3.6 Liter V6 24V Engine
  • 6-Speed manual transmission
  • 17 city/23hwy mpg
  • Anti-Lock 4-Wheel Disc Brakes
  • 2-Front and 1-Rear Tow Hooks

Jeep Wrangler Safety Specs and Customer Reviews:

  • Not rated by NHTSA but has 3 recalls
  • Overall “Good” ratings from IIHS with some concerns over front impact
  • 4.8-Star Customer Reviews at Vehicle History
  • 4.4/10 Expert Review at Vehicle History

Grand Cherokee: $34,000 – $87,645

Jeep Model: Silver Grand Cherokee

The Grand Cherokee maintains the iconic design but adds more brand cues along with some rugged styling. At the same time, it also has more style, including more curated comfort features (love those seats) along with ample space inside for you to move.

The Grand Cherokee is top for towing, pulling up to 7200 pounds using its 4×4 capability. That includes the Quadra-Lift Air Suspension System and Trail Rated ground clearance, giving you lots of performance over the roughest terrain (including 295 horsepower).

On-board tech includes advanced Uconnect 4C Nav with an 8.4-inch touchscreen with smartphone connectivity, navigation, and Bluetooth. The integrated voice command features work well as does the bright, easy-to-use screen. Remote vehicle start and Alexa complete the overall tech package.

Protech I is a standard driver-assist suite for the Grand Cherokee, with Protech II available. You have numerous trim options to choose from, including special limited edition models. Each adds in the styling and tech you want.

Grand Cherokee Specs:

  • 19 city/26 hwy mpg
  • 3.6L V6 24V VVT Engine
  • 295 hp at 64oo rpm
  • 260 lb.-ft. of torque
  • 8-Speed Automatic 850RE Transmission

Grand Cherokee Safety and Customer Reviews:

  • 5-Star Overall Safety Rating from NHTSA
  • Mixed safety reviews at IIHS
  • 4.8-Star Owner Reviews at Vehicle History
  • 4.3/10 Expert Review at Vehicle History

Cherokee: $26,085 – $38,195

Red Cherokee On The Beach

The Jeep Cherokee packs in the features and technically could be considered a crossover. It’s smaller but still has off-road capabilities that make it outstanding for everyday driving (when fuel economy also matters). It’s sleek with ample interior styling to love.

When you look at the five trim options available through the Cherokee, you’ll find a nice powertrain setup. The 3.2L V6 is the best overall with its 4500 pounds of towing capacity. Featured on the Trailhawk, this vehicle has a nice suspension system and all-wheel drive.

The Cherokee has a smaller cargo space than its Grand brother, but it still has nice interior features. The Uconnect Infotainment system is solid, though it does not have as many features as others. The driver safety features are good, though many are available rather than standard.

Cherokee Specs:

  • 180 hp at 6400 rpm
  • 171 lb.-ft. of torque
  • 2.4L I4 Zero Evap M-Air Engine w/ESS
  • 25 mpg combined
  • 9-Speed Automatic Transmission

Cherokee Safety and Customer Reviews:

  • 4-Star Overall Safety Rating at NHTSA
  • “Good” stars across the board at IIHS
  • 4.52-Star Owner Reviews at Vehicle History
  • 3.5/10 Expert Review at Vehicle History

Compass $22,280 – $31,145

Jeep Model: Gray Compass

The Jeep Compass aims to be a bit more luxurious than other models, but it still has those nice off-roading features you want (for those days you break away from the grind) and offers true Jeep styling both inside and out.

The Compass is not as refined as other models, but it does offer a stronger safety and security package and luxury seating package, both of which can offer more comfort overall. The optional Alpine sound system and ventilated front seats are a few of those upgrades.

The Compass has a good engine with an optional 9-speed automatic transmission. All-wheel drive is available on some trim options and tends to be the better option because it is better overall handling.

The Compass gets good fuel economy, has a spacious interior, and while it is not luxurious, it offers the Uconnect Infotainment system and plenty of apps to keep you busy.

Compass Specs:

  • 2.4L I4 MultiAir Engine
  • 6-Speed C635 Manual Transmission
  • Anti-Lock 4-Wheel-Disc Brakes
  • 26 mpg combined
  • 175 lb.-ft. of torque

Compass Safety and Customer Reviews:

  • 4-Star Overall Safety Rating at NHTSA
  • “Good” ratings at IIHS
  • 4.58-Star Owner Reviews at Vehicle History

Renegade: $22,620 -$30,740

Black Jeep Renegade With White Background

The Renegade is a bit more playful and offers some nice features, including off-roading (check out the Trailhawk trim for this). It’s not as fully packed in terms of features and overall performance as other models but can still be a good option for some.

The Renegade is better for the pavement than the dirt road, which you’ll see in its overall handling. You may love the LED lighting package and the upgradable options in safety and security. The Advanced Tech package gives it more driver features, as well.

It’s an affordable model with a 2.4L engine that’s impressive enough (though the 1.3L 4-cylinder is good enough if you don’t want a lot of horsepower, and it will save you on fuel economy.)

Renegade Specs:

  • 2.4L I4 Zero Evap M-Air Engine
  • 180 hp at 6400 rpm
  • Combined 25 mpg
  • 9-Speed 948TE Automatic Transmission
  • 12.7-Gallon Fuel Tank

Renegade Safety and Customer Reviews:

  • 4-Star Overall Safety Rating at NHTSA
  • Mostly “Good” ratings at IIHS
  • 4.39-Star Owner Ratings at Vehicle History
