With a click of a button, your key fob unlocks your doors, pops your trunk, and even starts up your car. Through all that, all it ever asks for is a new battery on occasion. Thankfully, that’s easy to do — as long as you know what battery to get.

What kind of battery goes in the Dodge Charger key fob?

The Dodge Charger key fob uses the CR2032 3-volt battery. You only need one to run your remote, and they are rather easy to change.

Where to Find Key Fob Batteries — and What Will They Cost?

Before you can change the battery in your key fob, you have to buy a new one. You’ll need to get one CR2032 3-volt battery for each of your Dodge Charger’s remotes. You can usually find them in the battery section at your local grocery store, office supply store, or hardware store.

If you want to shop online instead, look for single packs at:

If you have a safe place to put them away from pets and children, you can buy a multi-pack to have extras on hand for later. This is also a good idea if you need to replace batteries in multiple remotes.

Steps for Replacing the Charger Key Fob Battery

After you get your CR2032 3-volt replacement battery, you can move through the following steps to get your remote working right once again.

1. Get the Metal Key out of the Way

You have to get the metal key out of the case before you can open it up and reach the battery. So, look for the release lever near the base of the metal key.

Once you find it, use a small flathead screwdriver to push it down firmly. That will release the key, so you can pull it out and set it to the side.

2. Gently Pry Open the Case

Look for a small notch in the case near where the base of the metal key sat prior to removing it. Put the tip of your flathead screwdriver in that notch. Then, gently twist it to pop open the case. Once the two sides come apart, you’ll see one has the circuit board and the other has the battery.

3. Remove and Replace the Old Battery

You can pop out the old battery by sliding the screwdriver under the edge and prying it up. Work slowly and only use gentle force to avoid damaging the case and battery.

Once you have the old battery out, dispose of it in a secure garbage bin that pets and kids cannot reach. After you do that, you can pop the new battery in with the positive side down.

4. Put the Case Back Together and Test

To put the case back together, carefully align the two sides and carefully squeeze it. The sides should click together right away.

If they don’t, realign them and try again. Once you hear the click, grab the metal key, and slide it back in place as well.

With your key fob reassembled, all that’s left to do is test it. Go out to your 2020 Dodge Charger and push each of the buttons to see if the doors lock and unlock. Also, test that the button for the trunk works.

If the remote doesn’t perform the desired actions, you may need to take it into the dealership. They will let you know if you need a replacement and help you get one ordered.
