Although the Hyundai Sonata started as a basic midsize sedan, it has really come into its own through the years. By its sixth generation, it featured attractive swooping body lines, high-tech safety features, and ample room for five. However, even the best cars eventually end up with a recall.

How many recalls has the 2010 Hyundai Sonata had?

As of September 2020, just two, these include corrosion leading to control arm separation and a defective stop lamp switch. Thankfully, Hyundai will resolve each of these at no extra charge.

Great news, because in this article, we’ll both of these 2010 Sonata recalls in detail. We’ll then cover the steps you can take to have it resolved for free.

Corrosion Leading to Control Arm Separation

NHTSA Recall ID: 13V354000

The rear control arms connect to the cross member to provide stability as you move over divots and bumps in the roadway.

With the 2010 Sonata, this vital assembly has openings that allow water and road salt to enter and start to degrade their structure. As rust eats through the metal, the control arms eventually separate from the cross member, creating a dangerous situation.

To remedy the issue in full, technicians must look at and replace the cross member assembly with one that does not have openings in its construction. They may also need to inspect the control arms for damage and replace any parts that seem worn or otherwise in need of repair.

Defective Stop Lamp Switch

When in good working order, the stop lamp switch lets the taillights know to light up as you press down on the brake pedal. If the switch starts to go out, it will not only fail to illuminate the taillights but also affect the operation of the push-button start and transmission shift interlock system.

Sadly, on the 2010 Sonata, the switch has a tendency to malfunction. If that happens, you will not have any tail lights while driving, which could result in an accident. Additionally, you might find it impossible to shift out of Park or fire up your engine using push-button start.

Thankfully, all techs have to do to remedy this issue is to replace the stop lamp switch with a new one. They will also confirm that the repair fully resolves all the related problems before returning the car to your care.

How Do You Take Care of a Recall On a 2010 Hyundai Sonata?

To check if your Sonata is included in any of the above recalls, input its VIN into the Safety Recall and Service Campaigns tool and hit Submit. The system will then return a list of recalls still due and let you know how to best handle them.
