Maintaining your vehicle is a big part of owning the Toyota Tacoma. While this vehicle is reliable, there will be times when you need to upgrade and make changes to components, including the tires. That may mean you need to know the wheel bot pattern.

What is the Toyota Tacoma wheel bolt pattern?

The wheel bolt pattern for the 2000 through 2020 model vehicles with 2wd is five lug 4.5 inch or 114.3mm high positive offset. If you have a 4wd vehicle, it is 6 lug, 5.5 inch or 139.7mm medium offset.

Knowing this information is important, but that may not be enough to help you make the changes you need to when you want to adjust the vehicle’s tires. That’s why we are going to provide some additional information for you here. Make sure to take the time to look up the model year or trim model on Vehicle History for even more precise information.

What is a Wheel Bolt Pattern?

The term wheel bolt pattern relates to the vehicle’s mount hole layout. If you lay a tire on the ground flat, you can see the layout of the mounting holes. This is also sometimes called the bolt circle or the pitch circle diameter. In all cases, it is the way the holes are laid out on the actual tire.

We express the wheel bolt pattern in a specific way to communicate what the needs are. Specifically, it is the number of lugs on the vehicle’s tire along with the diameter of a circle that is formed at the center of the lugs themselves. This circle isn’t really there, but you’ll need to imagine it’s present.

To measure this, some companies make a bolt pattern template to use. This is perhaps the best way to get this information if you do not have it readily available for your car (we’re giving that information to you for the Toyota Tacoma, but it’s still wise to double-check your own info). You can find a bolt pattern template for sale easily. It’s then pretty easy to get these measurements.

If the vehicle has four, six, or eight-lug wheels, you can measure from the center of one of those lugs to the center of the lug that is located directly across from it (when the tire is laying on the ground face up).

In the Toyota Tacoma, there are five lugs. To measure for the rest of the information, you need to do so from the center of one lug to the outside edge of the opposite lug – that’s a bit more confusing, but it’s important to get just right.

It’s also important to remember that some wheels may seem to fit more than one pattern. Keep in mind that accuracy matters. That means you’ll want to find the right pattern whenever possible. Don’t just guess.

Why Does the Wheel Bolt Pattern Matter So Much?

There are a few reasons why this matters – including ensuring that you don’t struggle when it comes time to replace any of these components. Most importantly, if the pattern is not understood, it may not match the pattern on the axle hub.

Even a very small difference here means a lack of stability and security. This may lead to the wheel being off-center. That’s dangerous. It can lead to excessive vibration while driving. It can also damage the tire with uneven wear and tear.

What are the Wheel Bolt Patterns for the Toyota Tacoma, Then?

The wheel bolt pattern for the Toyota Tacoma for all recent models is:

  • For 2wd vehicles – five lug – 4.5 inch or 114.3mm high positive offset
  • For 4wd vehicles – six lug – 5.5 inch or 139.7mm medium offset

Why Do You Need to Know the Wheel Bolt Pattern for the Toyota Tacoma?

You may need this information if you are replacing various components of the wheel. The wheel of a vehicle is made up of several components.

The center of the wheel is called the center bore. This is where the wheel is centered on the hub. The metal that is around the center bore is called the plate. On the plate, there are openings. These are the lug holes.

These lug holes open to allow for the wheel studs to be positioned on them. Then, once the studs are in place, you’ll place the lug nuts on top of this to hold the wheel in place.

If you do not know how to replace a wheel on your car, that’s an important maintenance step to follow. Remember that it is critical to do this carefully and with manufacturer directions in mind. Safety first, too!

What’s important to know is that every vehicle out there may have a slightly different setup. They use different wheel studs and place them in various patterns. When there is a need to replace these components, you need to have the wheel bolt pattern, or you may buy the wrong components.

You can spend your time using the templates or doing a bit of measuring yourself. That is always an option. However, it may be easier to look up the information for your Toyota Tacoma in the owner’s manual. You can also use one of the many online search engines for component parts to help you determine this information.

Look this information up by the make and model of the vehicle as well as the year. Most important is whether it is a two-wheel-drive or four-wheel-drive vehicle. That’s because this can alter the actual measurements even on the same vehicle model. You can find that information out about your car online as well.
