The 2000 Honda Civic makes use of 5w30 on all of its engine types. Depending on what engine You have You will need between 3.5 and 3.7 quarts of oil. When performing an oil change on the car You will first want to make sure that the vehicle has been parked and off for a couple of hours. Otherwise, the oil in the car will be very hot and You could burn Yourself. Find the oil pan in the engine compartment and locate the drain plug on the underside. Position a bucket under the plug and then remove it. This will allow the oil to drain into the pan. Let it do this until it stops dripping, which may take an hour or so. After it has finished dripping You can put the drain plug back on, then locate the intake port on the top of the oil pan. Using a funnel fill the oil pan to full, but make sure to not overfill. A little under is fine, but going over can lead to leaks and oil burn off. Once it is full close the port up, wipe up any spilt oil and You will be finished.

The following is a list of those engine options and the amount of engine oil and viscosities: the 1.6L inline-4 (engine code B16A2 VTEC) uses 4.2 quarts of 5W30 synthetic oil the 1.6L inline-4 (engine code D16B5) requires 3.7 quarts of 5W30 synthetic oil the 1.6L inline-4 (engine code D16Y5 VTEC-E) needs 3.5 quarts of 5W30 synthetic oil the 1.6L inline-4 (engine code D16Y7) has to have 3.8 quarts of 5W30 synthetic oil and the 1.6L inline-4 (engine code D16Y8) must have 3.5 quarts of 5W30 synthetic oil.
