The standard 2.4-liter line-4 engine in the 2000 Toyota Tacoma takeS5.7 liters (6 quarts) of 5W-30 engine oil. Popular brands that manufacture this synthetic fluid include Mobil 1, Royal Purple, Valvoline, Castrol, and Pennzoil. Toyota recommends changing the oil in this vehicle every 5,000 miles or 6 months, whichever comes first. Your maintenance interval may be more frequent if You often tow or drive dirt roads. It is a good idea to get in the habit of checking the fluid routinely, even when it's not time for it to be replaced. This ensures that You catch a potential problem before it turns into expensive repairs. The oil should not be low or thick, and upon inspection, there should be no visible contaminants. If You see excess exhauSTSmoke or hear engine knocking, You've waited too long to change it.

The 2000 Toyota Tacoma has multiple engine options available and they require different viscosities and amounts of oil to perform optimally. The 2.4L inline-4 (engine code [L] 2RZ-FE) engine option uses 6 quarts of 5W30 synthetic oil. The 2.7L inline-4 (engine code [M] 3RZ-FE) in RWD requires 6 quarts of 5W30 synthetic oil while the 4WD version uses 5.8 quarts of 5W30 synthetic oil. The 2.7L inline-4 engine options (engine codes [M] 3RZ-FE and 3RZ-FE) with RWD require 6 quarts of oil while the 4WD versions need 5.8 quarts of oil. Both versions of the 3.4L V6 engine option engine code [N] 5VZ-FE and 5VZ-FE use 5.5 quarts of oil. All the engine option listed above are 5W30 synthetic oil viscosity.

While it's true the 2000 Taco (2.4L 2RZ-FE) is one of the optional engines for this rig, the unit I am driving takes 5 quarts total of semi-synthetic blend (hard to find conventional oil these days......big industry influence?). I've double checked w/Toyota USA, and they indicated (use of semi-synthetic blend and change every 5000 miles), still I offer anyone with brains to simply "look at color of oil" and for any impediments. My driving location habits are also a factor in oil change intervals..........hey guys, if it appears "d***y" stop watching TV or texting and "change your oil" don't just wait for the 5000 miles to come up.
