The 2001 Chevrolet Malibu has a 3.1 L V6 engine that needS4.5 quarts of motor oil and the preferred viscosity to use for this vehicle is SAE 5W-30. This is a good option because it works well in cold climates too and can help You start up Your engine a bit quicker than heavier oils. If You're living in an area where You don't really experience freezing temperatures than You can substitute the 5W-30 for 10W-30. It's recommended that You don't use other viscosity oils such as a SAE 20W-50 though. The manual suggests that You change Your oil and filter every 7,500 miles for the best performance and engine health. -
