With a very old car like a 2001 Chevrolet Suburban, You want to perform lube jobs frequently. The engine will be prone to wear and heat loss thanks to age and mileage put on it. The oil type used is synthetic 5W-30 for all sizes of motors. The capacity varies by engine size. The 5.3L V8 and 6.0L V8 take 6 quarts while the behemoth 8.1L V8 takeS6.4 quarts. Some original owner's manuals for these vehicles suggest using a thicker 10W-30 blend. While this might have been a solid recommendation before putting high miles on the car, it is not wise at this point. The lower viscosity 5W-30 synthetic motor oil will help to keep the engine running longer as a result of less work involved moving the lubricant throughout the motor.

The 2001 Chevrolet Suburban has three engine options available the 5.3L V8 engine, the 6.0L V8 engine, and the 8.1L V8 engine. The 5.3L V8 and the 6.0L V8 both require 6 quarts and the 8.1L V8 engine requires 6.4 quarts. All three use 5W30 synthetic oil.
