The 2001 Nissan Altima with the 2.4L 4Cylinder engine useS3.6 quarts of SAE 5W-30 engine oil. Nissan suggests that You use synthetic oil whenever You need to change it. Synthetic oil is a newer type of oil that is designed in a lab to give You better protection and performance compared to the petroleum based conventional option. This also means that You will need to change it only 7,500 miles compared to the 3,500 to 5,000 mile intervals that are used with conventional. I recommend that You check Your oil at least once a month. You will want to make sure that it is full and that it is free from any debris or damage that could cause a problem with Your motor.
