The 2002 Chevrolet Impala useS4.5 quarts of SAE 5W-30 motor oil. Chevrolet recommends that You use synthetic motor oil for greater protection in Your engine when You change it. Motor oil comes in two main varieties synthetic and conventional. Synthetic is made of chemicals in a lab and conventional is mined and has a petroleum base to it. Synthetic oil will last longer because it wears down slower than conventional. On average You will only need to change Your oil every 7,500 miles with synthetic compared to every 3,000 to 5,000 miles with conventional. You should always check Your oil every time that You get gas to make sure that the levels are right and that it is free from debris.
