For the 2003 Toyota 4Runner the recommended oil iS5W-30 Synthetic in all temperatures for the 4.0 L V6 and the 4.7 L V8 engine. The capacity for the vehicle iS5.5 quarts with a filter for the 4.0 L V6 and 6.6 quarts with a filter for the 4.7 L V8 engine. It is very important to use oil because it will prolong the engine's life by helping to keep it clean. The oil in the 4Runner should be changed every 3,000 miles or so because it will go bad after a while. It is smart to change the filter at the same time. The cost to get an oil change is anywhere from $40 to $50 in labor costs.

The two engines the 4.0L V6 (5.5 quarts) and the 4.7L V8 (6.6 quarts) available in the 2003 Toyota 4Runner both require 5W30 synthetic oil.

Hey Joe, no, nothing will happen to your 4Runner or any vehicle for adding an extra half-quarter of oil to the engine. Recommended capacity for the V6 is 5.5 quarters.. Having 6 does nothing to the engine. Cheers.
