All of the 2004 GMC Sierras 1500's engine options use 6 quarts except for the 4.3l V6. It useS4.5 quarts. All engines use 5w30 synthetic oil. It is recommended to change Your oil every 7,500 miles or 1 year, whichever comes first. You can extend Your engine life, get better gas mileage, and have better performance if You change Your oil regularly. Routine oil and filter changes help remove particles and sludge from the engine. If the oil isn't changed, Your vehicle's engine will start to have a lot of problems.Over time the oil will become thinner, abrasive, and will start to wear down on vital engine parts. Synthetic oil is by far better for performance. It protects the engine due to lower levels of friction.

The 2004 GMC Sierra 1500 comes with many different engine options. There is the 4.3L V6 base engine (4.5 quarts of oil), the 4.8L V8 option (6 quarts), both versions of the 5.3L V8 (non-flex and Flex) (6 quarts), and the two versions of the 6.0L V8 (engine code [N] LQ9 and [U] U) (6 quarts) all prefer 5W30 synthetic oil.
