The 2004 Hyundai Sonata uses SAE 5w-30 full synthetic oil. It has a capacity of 4.5 quarts. Oil keeps the internal parts of Your engine lubricated and it also removes dirt, sludge, and other impurities which will keep Your vehicle running smoothly. The cost of an oil change for Your Sonata is between $50 and $60 for labor and between $80 and $90 for parts. You should get an oil change every 5,000 miles or 6 months, whichever comes first.. Signs that it's time for an oil change include a ticking sound coming from the engine, transmission shifting issues, shaking while idling, exhauSTSmoke, poor fuel economy, and of course if You see the Check Engine or Oil Change lights come on.

Both 2.4L inline-4 versions (engine code [B][S] DOHC S or 2351cc 0) available in the 2004 Hyundai Sonata requires 4.5 quarts of oil while both of the 2.7L V6s (engine code [H] I and 2656 cc 1) takes 4.8 quarts. They all use the same viscosity: 5W30/5W40 (under 95 F), 10W30/10W40/10W50 (over -9 F), and 20W40/20W50 (over 32 F).
