The 2005 Chevrolet Suburban useS6 quarts of oil for all engines except the 8.1L V8 which useS6.4 quarts of oil. All of the engine options use SAE 5W-30 oil and Chevrolet recommends that You use synthetic whenever You need to change it. The two types of oil that are common these days are conventional and synthetic. Conventional is an older type of oil that is made from petroleum and synthetic is newer and engineered in a lab to give You greater wear protection and longer life. This means You should only need to change synthetic oil every 7,500 miles compared to 3,500 to 5,000 miles with conventional. You should check Your oil at least once a month to make sure it is full and free from any debris or damage.

The 5.3L V8 (engine code [T] T), the 5.3L V8 Flex, and the 6.0L V8 available in the 2005 Chevrolet Suburban all need 6 quarts of 5W30 synthetic formulated oil. The 8.1L V8 uses 6.4 quarts of the same viscosity oil as the other engine available in this vehicle.
