The recommended oil for the best performance in the 2005 Dodge Ram Pickup 1500 is really dependent on which engine is in it. For the 3.7 L V6 and the 4.7 L V8 You should use 5W-30 Synthetic, for the 5.7 L V8 You should use 5W-20 Synthetic and for the 8.3 L V10 You should use 0W-40 Synthetic. The capacity iS5 quarts with a filter for the 3.7 L V6, 6 quarts with a filter for the 4.7 L V8, 7 quarts with a filter for the 5.7 L V8 and 8.7 quarts with a filter for the 8.3 L V10 engine. You should change the oil and the filter every 10,000 miles or twelve months, whichever comes first. The cost of a change is $30 to $40 in labor costs with extra costs for parts.

The 3.7L V6 (base) engine in the 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 requires 5 quarts of 5W30 synthetic. The two types of the 4.7L V8 (non-flex and flex) take 6 quarts of 5W30 synthetic. The 5.7L V8 option for the 2005 Ram 1500 needs 7 quarts of 5W20 synthetic. The 2005 Dodge Ram 1500's 8.3L V10 uses 8.7 quarts of 0W40 synthetic formulated oil.
