The 2005 Ford Escape useS4.5 quarts of oil with the 2.3L 4Cylinder engine and 6 quarts of oil with the 3.0L V6 engine. Both engines do use SAE 5W-20 motor oil. Ford recommends that You use synthetic oil whenever You need to change it. Oil comes in two major varieties these days, synthetic and conventional. Synthetic is engineered in a lab to give You better lubrication performance and protection compared to conventional ones. Synthetic oil also lasts longer meaning that You only need to do an oil change every 7,500 miles compared to every 3,500 to 5,000 miles. Make sure to check Your oil regularly to make sure that it is filled properly and free from debris.

The three engines available for the 2005 Ford Escape all use 5W20 synthetic viscosity oil. The 2.3L inline-4 (engine code [H] 3) and the 2.3L inline-4 (engine code [Z] Z) both use 4.5 quarts worth. The 3.0L V6 needs 6 quarts.

The oil type should be synthetic 5w-20 for 2005 Escape 3.0 engine. It takes 6 quarts of oil due to this model also having a factory auxiliary oil cooler. The synthetic oil you use is personal choice, but as long as it meets Ford's oil spec for usage, then it's good to use. These new(er) engines have very tight tolerances, so using a higher 5w-30 or 10w-30 could work for a short time, but the higher viscosities could also starve your engine of getting oil correctly through the small oil passages and crank/cam bearings, when engine is cold started in wintertime, which will cost thousands of dollars in an engine rebuild.
