The 2006 Chevrolet Equinox comes from the factory using SAE 5W-30, synthetic, and has a capacity of 4 quarts for the 3.4 liter engine and 5.5 quarts for the 3.6 liter (this includes the amount that fills the filter). You can use the FRam ULTRA® Spin-on Oil Filter as a replacement for that part, if You want. If You disregard the manufacturer advice and use conventional oil, Your car won't explode (at least, not because of it) but You'll want to change it out every 3k to 5k miles. Conversely, if You're using a synthetic, You can wait until 7,500 to 10,000 miles to do the oil changes.
