There are a few different available engine options for the 2006 Dodge Ram 1500 so Your oil type and capacity will depend on which You have but I'll run You through all of them. The 3.7 L V6 engine will takeS5 quarts of A5W-30 oil, the 4.7 L V8 will require 5.9 quarts of 5W-30, and the 5.7 L V8 takeS7 quarts of 5W-20. When choosing Your engine oil You should try to make sure it's an API certified brand and You'll be able to tell because of the logo on the bottle. Full synthetic is the preferred option for engine health and getting the most mileage between oil changes. -

The 2006 Dodge Ram 1500 base engine the 3.7L V6 needs 5 quarts of 5W30. Both versions of the 4.7L V8 (non-flex and flex fuel compatible) both require 5.9 quarts of 5W30. The two versions of the 5.7L V8 (engine code [2] EZB 2 and [D] D) use 7 quarts 5W20 (those with the MDS setup requires 5W20). The 2006 Ram 1500s with the 8.3L V10 engine has a capacity of 8.7 quarts of 0W40. All the oil viscosities for these engines is synthetic based.
