The 2006 GMC Yukon takeS5 liters (5.28 quarts) of SAE 5W-30 engine oil. This is an all-season fluid designed to enhance performance while preventing corrosion and reducing friction by lubricating all moving components in the engine. If You plan on changing the oil Yourself, a few popular products include LiquiMoly Longlife III, Valvoline High Mileage, Pennzoil Platinum, and Castrol Edge. It's a good idea to check this fluid regularly to make sure it's not old, thick, or contaminated with any particles. Always do this when the engine has been off at least five minutes. GMC recommends changing the oil in the 2006 Yukon every 7,000 miles, but You may need to do it more frequently depending on Your driving habits. If You're paying to have the service work done, it will run You $110 to $130, including labor.

The 2006 GMC Yukon has three engine options and all three take 6 quarts of synthetic formulated 5W30 weighted oil. The three engines for the 2006 GMC Yukon are: the 4.8L V8, the 5.3L V8, and the 5.3L V8 Flex. The 2006 GMC Yukon Denali only comes with the 6.0L V8 engine which uses 6 quarts of 5W30 synthetic blended oil. The 2006 GMC Yukon XL comes with a selection of engines: the 5.3L V8, the 5.3L V8 Flex, the 6.0L V8 with the engine code [N] N, the 6.0L V8 having the engine code of [U] U, and the 8.1L V8. All the available engines except the 8.1L V8 for the 2006 Yukon XL take 6 quarts of oil. The 8.1L needs 6.4 quarts. And, just like the standard 2006 Yukon, the Yukon XL's engines all use the same weight and viscosity of oil 5W30 synthetic oil.
