The 2012 Honda Pilot engine oil capacity iS4.5 US quarts. 0w-20 synthetic motor oil is recommended. Synthetic oil is by far better for performance. It protects the engine due to lower levels of friction. Switching between synthetic and conventional oils will not cause any damage to an engine. Synthetic blends are a mixture of synthetic and conventional oil.Synthetic oil keeps engines cleaner. When oil travels through the engine, it picks up debris and deposits from tiny fragments of dirt and tiny slivers of metal which damage engines. It is recommended to change Your oil every 7,500 miles or 1 year, whichever comes first. You can extend Your engine life, get better gas mileage, and have better performance if You change Your oil regularly.

Would I be ok to put in 10w-30 which I bought until I can get an oil change?

- Jenn - It is not a good for your engine. If it is to the point to where you have to use it or no oil at all, then, it is what it is. However, you should ALWAYS use the manufacturers recommended oil type. The reason for that is, with all the other oils they tested with the engine, they didn't do well. Good luck.

Yes, the 10w- is for colder temperatures, your concern is with the higher 30. That just means it’s slightly more thick at the 20 that Honda wants, but I’ve run 5w-30 on my Honda for over 100k with great results.
