The 2013 GMC Sierra features several engine sizes. The 4.3 liter V6 useS4.5 US quarts of 5W-30. The 4.8 l V8 is equipped with 6 US quarts of the same lubricants. The Sierra's three largest engines, the 5.3 l V8; the 6.0 l V8 and the 6.2 l V8 all require 6 quarts of 5W-30 as well. Oil and filter changes should be scheduled every 7,500-10,000 miles or 12 months if using fully synthetic lubricants, or every 3,000-5,000 miles or 6 months, if using conventional oil. The advantages of using synthetic vs conventional products include better lubrication among moving parts, a longer interval between service appointments and enhanced effectiveness under adverse weather conditions. A motor oil with a thinner viscosity moves more easily in colder temperatures, coating engine components efficiently and providing better protection against friction and corrosion.
