The type of oil that is used in the 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 depends on the size of the engine. It is recommended to use 5W-30 Synthetic for the 4.3 L V6 and 0W-20 Synthetic for both the 5.3 L V8 and the 6.2 L V8 engine. The capacity for the truck iS6 quarts with a filter for the 4.3 L V6 and 8 quarts with a filter for the 5.3 L V8 and the 6.2 L V8 engine. All versions of the truck have a torque of 18 ft/lbs for the drain plug. Oil doesn't last forever so it needs to be changed every so often. You should change the oil and filter every 7,500 to 10,000 miles.
My truck has 130k miles and my dad says I should use 5-30 instead of 0-20 because of the high mileage but I told him no , should I believe him ?

The 2015 Chevy Silverado 1500 uses full synthetic oil. The 4.3L V6 uses SAE 5W-30 and both the V8 engines call for SAE 0W-20. The oil capacity of the V6 engine is 6 quarts. The 5.3L V8 and the 6.2L V8 both hold 8 quarts.
It calls for 0w20 doesn't mean required I'd also do as your dad is saying and add 5w30 it's only slightly thicker would increase resistance only a bit but add better protection being as it has over 100k I'd say your dad knows what he's talking about
