Mazda recommends the use of sae 0w-20 oils for the Mazda3 . The 2.0L 4Cylinder engine has a maximum capacity of 4.4 quarts, while the more powerful 2.5L 4Cylinder engine can hold up to 4.8 quarts. When changing oils, its highly preferred to use a fully synthetic one, although semi-synthetic oils are acceptable. This is because they are more efficient, clean and contribute greatly to the longevity of the vehicle. When changing oils, it is recommended to swap out the filters too. Failure to do so can result in other problems over time, as well as poor performance and clogging. Change Your oils every 3500 to 5000 miles. They usually cost $100 to $150 to get done.
