The 2017 BMW X5 useS4.3 quarts of SAE 0W-20 on the 2.0L 4Cylinder version. The 3.0L 6 cylinder version useS6.9 quarts of SAE 0W-30 oil. BMW recommends that You always use synthetic oil whenever You need to change it. There are two main varieties of oil that are on the market today, synthetic and conventional. Synthetic will give You better protection and a longer oil life compared to conventional which is petroleum based. Synthetic needs to be changed less frequently as well. Usually You can go 7,500 miles between changes compared to 3,500 to 5,000 miles. Try to make a habit of checking Your oil at least once a month to make sure that it is full and free from signs of debris or burning.
