The oil type and capacity for Your 2017 Ford Explorer will depend on which engine model Your vehicle is equipped with. The base 2.3L 4Cylinder will need to run on 5W-30 synthetic and it will have a capacity of 5.7 US quarts. The 3.5L V6 will have a capacity of 6 US quarts and require the use of synthetic 5W-20 oil. Finally the most powerful engine available was the turbocharged 3.5L V6 and it had a capacity of 6 US quarts but will need to run on 5W-20 motor oil. No matter which engine You have they will all need to have an oil change done between every 7,500 and 10,000 miles.

The 2017 Ford Explorer only uses synthetic oils but the viscosity and capacities vary by engine type. The 2.3L 4 -cylinder engine uses SAE 5W-30 and can hold 5.7 quarts. The 3.5L V6 prefers SAE 5W-20 filter and holds 6 quarts. The 3.5L V6 Turbo also holds 6 quarts but at a viscosity of SAE 5W-30.

XO-5W30 5.7qt or (5.4L) The Sport has Twin Turbo Chargers so I would Suggest using Full Synthetic not a blend! Turbo Chargers create a lot of heat!
