The 2017 Ford Transit Van oil type and capacity iS5w-30 and 5.9 quarts. Having high quality oil is important for the engine to run smoothly. You will run into issues with the oil at some point. Bad oil can cause the engine to stop working. A common problem is an awful burning smell. This needs to be inspected as soon as possible or the car might explode. Knocking noise may arise from the engine. You could experience poor gas mileage. Your oil needs to be replaced eventually. Every 5,000 to 10,000 miles is a good rule of thumb. If You don't replace it, there will be issues with the engine.

The owners manual for the 2017 Ford Transit Van shows full synthetic oil with varying viscosity. For the 3.5L Ecoboost engine, use SAE 5W-30, for the 3.7L engine use SAE 5W-20 and for the 3.2L diesel, use SAE 5W-40 full synthetic diesel motor oil. The capacity for the van is 5.9 quarts.

If it has a DPF diesel particulate filter in the exhaust then you need to use a low saps type oil, that is an oil with very little amounts of metal anti wear additives as those may interfere with the way the filter works and cause blockages which put the engine into limp home mode, or only allowing low revs. That type of oil is normally synthetic and has a viscosity of 5 at 40 Deg C and 30 at 100 Deg C = 5w/30 the viscosity is not an important as the low saps, you can use a 5w/40 or 15w/40..these figures are determined by where the vehicle is used,...in cold climate the lower the viscosity in hotter climates then a higher viscosity
