You will run into issues with the oil at some point. Bad oil can cause the engine to stop working. A common problem is an awful burning smell. This needs to be inspected as soon as possible or the car might explode. Knocking noise may arise from the engine. You could experience poor gas mileage. Your oil needs to be replaced eventually. Every 5,000 to 10,000 miles is a good rule of thumb. If You don't replace it, there will be issues with the engine.

The 2017 Hyundai Sonata uses a full synthetic oil. The 1.6L 4 -cylinder engine uses either SAE 5W-30 of 5W-40 and has the capacity to hold 4.8 quarts. Both the 2.0L 4-cylinder and 2.4L 4-cylinder engine prefer an SAE 5W-20 for all temperatures, with capacities of 4.3 quarts and 5.1 quarts, respectively.

Owners manual and engine cap both state SAE 5W-20 blend is the tested oil of choice for the 2.4L 4 cylinder. Looks like according to some comments that you could run SAE 5W-30 blend during the hot summer months.
