The 2017 Subaru Outback has a towing capacity of 2,700 pounds which has a tongue weight of up to 270 pounds. The Outback also has a payload capacity of 994 to 1,115 pounds including passengers. Usually this will be enough to tow things like motorcycles, quads, and small fishing boats but it is not known to be a big vehicle for towing. The Outback'S4Cylinder engine produces 174 to 247 pound feet of torque depending on the engine choice that You select. That is usually enough to get Your vehicle to drive well, but may be a little bit low for towing at highway speeds. If You are in the market for a tow vehicle I recommend trying to get something larger and with a truck ladder frame.

The 2017 Subaru Outback has a boxer engine that can generate between 174 and 247 lb-ft. Of torque which is more than enough to tow 2,700 lbs. The 2017 Outback's tongue is set at 270 lbs. Per Subaru's owner's manual for the Outback.

I came here to find out, after having filled the entire rear with cases of water. I only traveled 2 miles on newly paved asphalt. After reaching my destination, I calculated the weight to be 1315 pounds. So, based on 1,115 pounds figure I was 200 pounds overloaded. The 4 cylinder hauled it with ease.
