When equipped with the 2.0-liter 4Cylinder engine, the 2018 Subaru Forester getS5.1 liters (5.4 quarts) of SAE 5W-30 oil. The 2.5-liter 4Cylinder needs about 4.8 liters (5.1 quarts) of 0W-20. Both of these oil types are synthetic. The 0W-20 is a bit thinner though. They both reduce friction in the engine by lubricating moving parts. They also help keep the engine cool. When not replaced routinely, this fluid can get low and old, which both result in low oil pressure that can damage the vehicle's engine. Subaru recommends having this fluid replaced every 7,500 miles, but if You drive in dusty conditions or You make frequent long-distance commutes at low speeds, Your maintenance interval will be more often. The average cost to replace this fluid in the 2018 Forester is $110 to $140, which includes labor.

The 2018 Subaru Forester requires the use of synthetic oil. The 2.0L 4-cylinder engine runs on SAE 5W-30 and can hold 5.4 quarts. The 2.5L 4-cylinder engine prefers SAE 0W-20 and has the capacity for 5.1 quarts.

I buy my filter and oil at Wally World, both add up to about $35.00, take it to my local garage, and they change the oil for $15.00 while I catch up on local gossip. Obviously you can't do this at a dealership, they exist to make money, but the mechanic is ASE certified and competent. I change every 5K miles. .
