According to NHTSA number 10079524, 2011-2014 models of the Chevy Cruise are subject to a recall for a leaking water pump, that may affect the thermostat housing but does not include its replacement. The recall also covers the 2012-2014 Chevrolet Sonic equipped with a 1.4 liter engine. Both types of vehicles may leak from the weep reservoir or the water pump shaft seal, causing engine overheating and coolant to seep onto the engine and the ground. The thermostat housing may suffer stress from overheating but is not covered by a recall. Dealerships will replace the water pump in affected vehicles at no charge. When the Cruise's water pump is failing owners will be alerted by the Engine Hot, AC Off and "Check Engine" light warnings.

Although the 2014 chevy cruze may be covered by a recall issued by gm for a leaking water pump, the thermostat housing was not covered in this recall.

I have a 2014 Chevy Sonic hatchback and the engine light comes on due to the thermostat and then the AC does not work after resetting the engine light the AC comes back on. So they're definitely needs to be a recall on several different models and years of Chevy vehicles for this issue. I'm in Florida and if you knock out the AC due to the thermostat not working, it's a real problem!

Have a 2013 chevy sonic 1.8L and it started leaking from the thermostat housing, I replaced the gasket and everything seemed fine, but after a few days I saw antifreeze leaking again. This definitely should be a recall.

There should definitely be a recall. I have a 2012 Chevy Cruze and now have had two thermostat and housing unit replacements. The first time was in 2019 at the dealership, and the second time was in 2022. The mechanic in 2022 said this is a known issue with the Cruzes and cars with this specific engine. They also said the parts the GM dealership used also were partially made of plastic, so that could be why there was failure. I asked if they could upgrade me on the type of part and they said they use one that's made of aluminum. So if you get this fixed, I recommend asking your mechanic what the material is made of and if it's the part prescribed by GM. $600 the first time, and $718 this time...

There definitely should be a recall for the thermostat housing. The GM dealership I've taken it to is charging me over $400.00!
