The 2012 Honda Civic Camshaft Position (CMP) Sensor is attached on the right hand side of the engine bay at the rear of the valve cover, near the intake manifold. The sensor is mounted below the cover of the timing chain in front of the cylinder head. The main role of the CMP is to define the position of the camshaft as it relates to the crankshaft. Some of the signs You're checking for whether You think You've got a faulty sensor are the check engine light on, trouble starting the motor, or no start, and the car jerking or surging forward while You're speeding up. If the CMP is broken, the cost of the repair part will range from $25-$75 depending on whether it is an OEM or an aftermarket component.
