Certain models of the 2002 Toyota Camry are equipped with anti-locking brakes. Previous years of manufacture did not include this feature on the SE and LE V6 sedans and the 4Cylinder XLE. Beginning in 2002, ABS braking became standard inclusions on these trims, but optional on other Camry's. Anti-locking brakes are considered a safety addition to any vehicle and work by processing information gathered from the wheels' speed sensors and the engine's ECU. The ABS system detects when unstable road surface conditions cause wheel lock and slippage and counteract the problem by "pumping" the brakes without driver input. The pumping motion is performed in rapid succession 100's of times/second, and prevents wheels from "locking" and then skidding.

Anti-lock brakes are only available on a couple of the trim levels of the 2002 toyota camry. The v6 and xle trims did have them.
