Lexus does recommend that You use premium unleaded gasoline in Your IS300, with a MINImum octane rating of 91 or higher. This is generally recommended to give You the full performance and power out of Your car's engine. It is a good idea to always use a higher octane fuel in Your car. The higher octane options will burn more completely in Your engine and that can help reduce carbon buildup as well as prevent engine knocking that can be dangerous. There are also some gasolines on the market that have a top tier designation on them. These have detergents and additives in them that are designed to help clean Your engine and keep it sludge free for longer.

With gas prices so high right now at six dollars a gallon could I get by with running 87 octane in my iOS 3 hundred just can’t afford the gas thank you.

Premium is required due to high compression. Without a higher octane rating you can experience premature combustion in the cylinder that could cause major issues.
