The 2001 Honda Accord does come with a chipped key. The chip inside the key is called a transponder and is used by the security system to stop someone from stealing Your car. The transponder only interacts with the ignition system, it does not communicate or affect the door or truck locks in any way. The way the key works is a small chip located in the plastic part of the key which uses an RFID signal that is read by the ignition cylinder. This signal is unique to Your key and car, so if You lose the key You must have a new one made and progRammed into the ECU. If the ignition reads the wrong signal or no signal, it will not allow the vehicle to start.

The 2001 Honda Accord has a chip in the key. The chip in the 2001 Honda Accord key is also known as a transponder key. The transponder key needs to be programmed to the vehicle for the key to operate properly.
