The 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee comes standard with either rear wheel drive or four wheel drive. Rear wheel drive was standard on the base model. The other trims all came with four wheel drive as standard. The four wheel drive system on the Grand Cherokee used a transfer case and You would select whether You wanted 2WD, 4WD high, or 4WD low. 2WD was best for normal daily driving. 4WD high is good for slippery conditions and icy roads. 4WD low is good for snow conditions or off road driving where You will not be going fast but need the most traction possible. The Grand Cherokee's capabilities on and off the road have made it a popular vehicle for decades.
