Starting in the mid-1990's, Chevrolet began gradually producing vehicles with a transponder chip inside them. However, they did so very slowly. It wasn't until the mid 2000's that they finally rolled out chips in all of their models. The first Chevy with the chip was sold in 1997. The 2003 Chevrolet Impala, however, does not have a transponder chip, due to the slow production. Instead, it includes a vats, or pass key. These particular keys have a resistor pellet on them.
