Your 2003 Toyota Corolla with A4Cylinder engine is going to have a timing chain rather than a belt. Toyota switched over to using a chain in this vehicle in 1998 and has been using it ever since. This may come as a relief to some that have had bad experiences with belts in the past and don't want to have to go through the maintenance with them again. Belts do work just fine and it's not a bad thing if Your vehicle has one but the timing chains are built to last and much more durable. If You follow proper vehicle maintenance and drive carefully You can expect the chain to last the lifetime of Your engine. -

A timing chain, which is generally more sturdy than a timing belt.
