Honda non-transponder keys are metal keys that have no chip in them. Therefore, no progRamming is needed. But what does the car key chips actually do You may be wondering. The microchip responds to a radio signal sent from the car's computer when the key is turned in the ignition. The computer chip is progRammed to send a coded signal back to the car's computer in order to start the engine. If the code is incorrect, the engine will not start. If You lose the key and fob, You can expect a dealer replacement and progRamming to cost $200 or more, depending on the vehicle and the key's design. A Lexus dealer quoted $370 for a new key, fob, and progRamming, and a BMW dealer said replacement keyless fobs could be as much as $500, depending on the model.
