The 2007 Chevy Equinox has a timing chain, as opposed to a timing belt. Most newer cars offer a chain, as it is a much more durable alternative. It can last for the lifetime of the car, while a belt will need to be changed at some point. This is because, based on the material of the belt, it is more prone to wear and tear. Having a chain juSTSaves You that one little maintenance headache. For this reason the majority of car makers are using timing chains now, and ditching the belt. As long as Your chain stays lubricated, as part of ongoing maintenance, it will not need to be replaced.

The 2007 Chevrolet Equinox 4-cylinder and V6 engines have chain-driven camshafts. The timing chain doesn't need to be replaced in regular intervals.
