The 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe's 2.7 liter V6 engine is equipped with a timing belt, and the Santa Fe'S3.3 liter V6 features a timing chain. The chain is designed to last the life of the vehicle, and as a metal part, by default, is more durable. Also because it operates from inside rather than outside the engine, it doesn't suffer from cracking or drying out like belts do. They can improve fuel economy as well. Most belts need replacing between 60,000-100,000 miles. The Santa Fe's timing chain should remain maintenance free. Occasionally they break, which can have catastrophic results for the engine. The average cost to replace the belt is from $700-$900 in parts and labor.

Yes my Santa Fe 2007 it does have a chain and it did brake. Shops are wanting a lot of labor cost to fix it. Don’t know what to do. Last quote was 5000 dollars parts and labor total.
