Good news, the 2008 Subaru Tribeca does not have a timing belt, it has a timing chain. Throw a party for Your wallet, because this means that unless something pretty serious happens to Your car or timing chain, You should never have to replace it, and replacing timing belts can be pretty spendy (close to $1K). To make sure nothing serious happens, one of the best things You can do for Your car and chain is replace the oil at the recommended intervals. For You, this means changing it every 10,000 to 12,000 miles. You should also be checking Your oil levels about once a month to make sure that levels are ideal (between the top and bottom lines on the oil dipstick), and that the oil itself is looking good.
It has a timing chain which as others said last way longer than a belt. But, the water pump is driven by the chain and is a lot of work to change. If you need a water pump and have a lot of kilometres then the chain kit should be changed too. That is over $1000 just for the chain kit, plus the labour. Aside from that I really like the Trebecca. Rear seats dont have much leg room but I sit in the front
