The 2009 Toyota Tacoma has a timing chain in both the 2.7 L 4Cylinder and 4.0 L V6 engines. A timing chain is much more durable than a belt and has a much longer life expectancy. Tacoma owners who keep up on routine maintenance may never experience a problem with the chain. Without proper maintenance the chain can stretch. d***y oil, the wrong viscosity or lack there of can cause premature wear of the plates and pins of the chain or the sprockets. The timing chain is an important component in the engine, it synC-HRonizes the crankshaft and camshaft and controls the timing of the engines valves opening and closing during firing. The chain is located inside the engine and receives lubrication from the engine oil. Poor oil maintenance is the number one cause of timing chain failure.

The 2009 Toyota Tacoma uses a timing chain for both its 4-cylinder and 6-cylinder engines. Normally, these parts are more durable than a timing belt and require less maintenance.
