The 2009 Toyota Yaris comes with a timing chain on the engine. This is better than a belt because it should not ever need to be replaced in the life of the vehicle. Usually a timing belt will need to be changed every 60,000 to 100,000 miles and it is one of the most expensive pieces of regular maintenance that needs to be done. A chain on the other hand should be able to last over 300,000 miles with no problems. You should still inspect the chain at least once a year. During this check You will want to make sure that it is not loose and that it is free from any damage or debris that could cause it to gum up and fail.

The 2009 Toyota Yaris uses a time chain. Normally, these parts are more durable than a timing belt and require less maintenance.
