The 2010 Ford Escape comes equipped with a timing chain for both the 2.5 L 4Cylinder and the 3.0 L V6 engine. The Escape does use the timing belt for some versions but it depends on the year and the engine size. There is not much difference between the two except for what they are made from and where they are located. The chain is on the inside of the engine and the belt is on the outside of the engine. Since the belt is on the outside of the engine, it is exposed to things unlike the chain which is on the inside and is not exposed. For this reason, the belt needs to be replaced every so often and the chain should last for the life of the vehicle. Even though it should last for the life of the vehicle, things can end up going wrong and should be inspected every 150,000 miles or so.

The 2010 Ford Escape uses a timing chain. Normally, these parts are more durable than a timing belt and require less maintenance.
