The 2011 Volkswagen Tiguan has a timing chain on the engine rather than a belt. The timing chain is a better option than a belt because it will not have to be replaced as often. A timing belt usually needs to be replaced every 60,000 to 100,000 miles and a timing chain should be able to last over 300,000 miles. I recommend that You check the timing chain at least once a year though to make sure that it is not loose and free from any signs of damage. You will also need to replace the water pump about every 100,000 miles even with a timing chain. The pump helps move coolant through Your engine and if it fails Your engine could overheat.
