The 2012 Chevrolet Impala has a timing chain. This means that with proper care You will not need to change out the belt over the course of the car's life cycle. If the chain does break however then You will find the car overheating almost instantly. Replacing a chain will cost You about 100 dollars for the new chain, and about another 100 for the labor. When You buy a chain online make sure that You do not buy the wrong thing, such as a timing belt. Some places refer to both of them as cam belts, but only a chain will work for this car.
