The 2012 Nissan Sentra comes with a timing chain instead of a timing belt. The timing chain is considered a better alternative when compared to the belts. This is because these chains are made of metal links and are much more durable than the timing belts which are made from rubber that wears and tears very easily. The timing chain is generally located inside the engine and receives direct lubrication from the engine itself to ensure its working. However, a replacement for a bad timing chain costs much more than a timing belt. The average cost for a timing chain replacement is around $1300 to $1500. Mostly labor costs. Although the timing chains cost a lot more than their alternatives, the durability they provide cannot be ignored. If maintained well, they could last for about 200,000 miles.
