The 2013 Acura ILX with the 2.0 L 4Cylinder uses a timing chain instead of a timing belt. It is better to be using a chain because it usually doesn't need to be replaced unlike the belt. The chain is inside the engine and gets help with lubrication from the engine oil and the belt is on the outside of the engine and is more exposed. A belt will usually have to get replaced every 60,000 to 100,000 miles or so and for the chain You should inspect it every 150,000 miles or so to see if anything has gone wrong with it. If something has gone wrong with it, it will usually be from it becoming loose or too worn.
