The 2015 Mazda CX5 comes equipped with a timing chain rather than a timing belt. The CX5 has been using the chain since the first year which is 2013 through the most recent year. The main reason why they might be using a chain is because it requires less maintenance than the belt. A timing belt needs to be changed every so often and the chain should last for the life of the vehicle unless something drastic has happened. If the car used a timing belt, it would need to be changed every 60,000 to 100,000 miles and the chain should just be looked at every 150,000 miles or so. To inspect the timing chain You just look at the tension and make sure nothing went wrong.
